Biography
Nick Andrew (aka. Nickjitsu) grew up in Scotland, where he established a formidable reputation as a virtuoso guitarist, composer, teacher and session guitarist. He has performed supporting various masters from the world of Rock, Classical and Jazz including Midge Ure, Martin Taylor, Simon Dinnegan, John Goldie, Allan Neave and Russian composer Nikita Koshkin.
He moved to London in 1997 to further develop his career, working on a wide range of solo and collaborative projects with various solo artists, cover bands, including a U2 tribute band, where Nick honed his skills in guitar effects and Midi guitar. He has also worked for various musical companies in the pits, as an entire orchestra!
Electric Jazz pioneers Curfew recruited Nick in 2001 on the basis of his rhythm/groove playing and he co-wrote, performed and produced Curfews "Hold the Front Page" album.
In 2005 Nick wrote, performed, produced and independently released his Electric Classical style album “Solo?”
This is the first opus where Nick played all the instruments himself, all on guitar! (Even the violas, drums, whooshes and gongs).
Under the name Nickjitsu, Hyperreal was released in 2022. Once again the entire album is played completely on guitar. It features Nick's usual 'fret fireworks' as well as his unique composing skills. This is a true fusion album as there are styles ranging from Jazz, Funk, Metal to Japanese traditional music. Even the seagulls are played on guitar!
Work is just finishing on a new Nickjitsu album inspired by a trip to Berlin! Techno Dance Fusion anyone?
Live, Nick has performed his music at numerous venues including Wembley Arena, Royal Festival Hall and various music shows, guitar festivals and masterclasses all over Europe and America.
Nick has also taught for various colleges, universities and music schools in the UK like the ACM in Guildford.
Always one to think outside the box, Nick has spent the last 14years living in a car and now a van. This is a decision he took so he could devote his life to the persuit of music and refine his craft. It inspired the book, 'Backseat Bedroom'.
